The Secret Hero campaign earlier this month was another blast, among the other interesting news you will discover who was behind your surprises.
Totally on board with everything? Bull's eye!
Every year, the department receives operating funds to provide for staff working expenses as well as educational expenses. The department always strives to spend the resources healthily and correctly, equitably and addressing various needs, in the interest of the greatest number of employees.

In brief, here you can read how we spend our department budget and what expenses we do/do not bear.
  • Need another refresher in the financial who, what, how, and where? Well, on this one.
  • Operational issues? Team Finance at your service.
  • Policy questions? Department manager.

Plans to reform the Faculty Doctoral Committee (FDOC) are at an advanced stage, with final decisions still to be made. Both in terms of process, organisation and criteria, changes have been proposed, which would take effect from next academic year, albeit with transition period for ongoing tracks.

The full layout for the reform can be consulted here.
The core facility MoveLab, a collaborative partnership between our department (partim Revaki) and the GE30, will start operationally on 1 April.

For the time being it is not yet possible to make reservations within the core, but as an end user you already register under your promoter and each budget holder adds their budgets on which reservations by their own staff can be charged.

What is the requested Fund that you need to specify at a budget place?
  • E-funds are fund V
  • D-funds are fund IV2
  • BOF budgets are fund IV1
  • other external funding budgets (FWO, VLA,...) are fund IV2

Check the knowledge clips on the generic FGE core facilities page.
Other help or questions: core leader prof. Erik Witvrouw to the rescue.

Some outreach pointers. Quick, not dirty, but seasoned.

Social outreach initiatives from the faculty are clustered into three domains, each focused on various target groups. Have an initiative of your own in mind, you can find more info on the faculty website.
  • Fact.Ge.Wijs@campus: for the general public, such as Science Day and other ad hoc initiatives
  • Fact.Ge.Wijs@school: an educational offer throughout the academic year for young people, schools and study-goers
  • Fact.Ge.Wijs4all: smaller initiatives such as Talentateliers voor Jongeren (TAJO), Zomeracademie (Summer Academy), cooperation with the city of Ghent, aimed at vulnerable target groups
From now on, the Science Day will be organised on campus every two years (odd-numbered years). Of course, in the even-numbered years you can participate with activities at the central UGent offerings in De Krook/UFO.
Reminder.
The spring call for the Social Valorisation Fund ends on 26 March. You can read more about the purpose and submission requirements right here.
Switching gears: did you know that on the website Masterproeven in beeld, popularising summaries of master's theses are shared with society? Society actors can also contribute master thesis topics.
Finally, keep an eye on some outreach professionalisation activities.

Video killed the radio star.
Nope, because last week on Radio 1, colleague Katrien Kestens talked about the impact of hearing damage on dementia. Hot listening tip!
Practice your meanwhile honed networking skills (see above) and brush up on your language skills? Why not both?
Join one of the conversation tables during Let's Talk on Thursday 18 April (12:00 h. - 13:00 h.) and get to know your foreign-language colleagues in the faculty in a fun and interesting way!

Watching someone on the sly, sending unsolicited messages or attentions, or just slipping into an office. Without context: wrong, possibly punishable. As a Secret Hero: totally legit.
Our Secret Hero action around Compliment Day was fun again, both as giver and taker. Who were your three Secret Heroes? They are exposed here. Don't hesitate to thank them for the nice gifts!

Look for inspiration (and no lawyer), because we will do it again in September during Happiness Week!
The basic material some Happiness Heroes have started working with is cork. Peter, why cork?
Well, you can stick it to the wall well and make a nice announcement board. This week the cork wall in the 1B3 kitchen (and possibly one on 2P1 soon) will be finished. You will also be able to follow interesting announcements and fun news on it.
Digital announcement now, but soon also pinned in the cork: REVA Easter Egg Crawl on Tuesday 16 April. Chocolate for sure, someone in bunny outfit optional.
